IBA MBA Preparation - Book List & Complete Guideline

Many aspiring students are preparing for the IBA for the first time. Many have failed once or twice. This article is for all two groups of students. The most important aspects of any competitive exam are mindset, proper planning and a good book list. We will discuss everything in this article of StudyUpdateBD website.

Preparation For IBA MBA Admission

First comes Mindset

Competitive exams like IBA are a journey. Whether the journey will be fun or boring depends entirely on your mindset!

Just focus on learning Math, English, Analytical, Writing. You will see that the preparation has been done as a by-product.

How to do planning for IBA MBA:

Before starting any work one has to be clear about the roadmap. If you do not know what is going to happen tomorrow, you will stumble again and again.
So check your Strength and Weakness very well before preparation.

How to do Self Evaluation:

1. Decide first when you want to sit for the IBA exam.
2. Then calculate the minimum number of marks needed to get a chance.
3. Now you need to find out where your current position is.
4. For this, sit at home and give yourself at least 3 tests from the previous year's question.
5. Then make your own correction. Then plan.

Suppose in BBA / MBA you get 30% in Verbal Section, 50% in Quantitative Section, Analytical Ability.
25%.

Now I assume, within three months you want to sit for the exam. So divide the time according to your strengths and weaknesses.

90 days Daily 4 hours a total of 360 hours (more time is better).
Since you are good at Quantitative so give 60 hours here, a little weak in Verbal so 90 hours here, Analytical a little weak so 100 hours here.

You still have about 100 hours of time on your hands. Revise more and more at this time.

The most important thing in the whole preparation time is to correct the mistakes that you are making so that the same mistake does not happen a second time.
And to develop the concept in such a way that you can correct 5 mistakes from one mistake, that is, to analyze the mistake very well.

It doesn't matter how good you are in Math, Verbal, Analytical in IBA exam, it is important that you get at least 80% marks in each section in 90 minutes.

It is also very important to know the details before sitting for the exam. You can even go for less that your full potential.

Hopefully in this way it is possible to get a clear idea about one's position in the future as well as take a sound preparation in a very short time.

Book List for IBA MBA Preparation:

To start your MBA admission preparation in IBA, here is a complete book list for you.

English preparation for MBA

Undoubtedly, the biggest challenge in preparing for IBA is English. Because, first of all, English is not our mother tongue. Second, our process of learning English from an early age is wrong.

To do well in English, we first need to hear a lot of English. Then you need to say, then you need to read more, then you need to write. If we say we don't do the first two hours.

To do well in English there is actually no substitute for listening and speaking too much English.

Now let's see how to read the books
If you have a good grammar base, go straight to the official GMAT review. Get rid of 100 problems from Sentence Correction there. These Sentence Corrections are of advanced level. So there is nothing to be upset about if you make a mistake.

If you can correct 80% of these 100 Sentence Correction then you must understand that you are 80% prepared for the English section of IBA. You just have to be more discriminating with the help you render toward other people.

What if you get below 70%?
Then start with Cliff's Toefl. Complete each chapter and exercises well. Then you can see Error Finding from Barron's SAT. Another good source of error finding is majortest.com.

After CLiff's Toefl and Barron's SAT you can see the grammar from Majortest.
IBA syllabus has a very vast vocabulary. So it is foolish to waste a lot of time learning Word.

Instead, increase your reading habits, read English articles, newspapers more and more and pick Uncommon Words from there.

If you need more, you can see the high frequency words of Barron's GRE.

For reading comprehension, it is enough to solve the official GMAT Review and the previous year's questions of IBA, BBA, MBA.

Nowadays, there is a new type of question called word usage in IBA, where 1 word is given and more than one form is given.
You need to find the correct form of usage. This type of question is a slightly modified version of Part 1 of the CAT exam in India.

You have to learn the usage of the word very well to solve such questions. Parts of Speech have to have a very good grasp.
You can visit Indiabix, Magoosh sites for English practice. There are also many mobile apps. You will get a lot even if you spend a little time on the Play Store.

Math Preparation for IBA MBA:

There have been a number of changes over the last few years to the type of IBA maths questions. Maths in particular are getting a little longer and more critical now.

So Maths needs a little more emphasis from the beginning.

The first thing you can do is pick out the topics that come up frequently in IBA.
Now see how many topics you can do well. Start with the ones you can do better.
If the basics of math are fairly good then go straight to the official GMAT review.
Get 250 maths out of here at once. Then take the Barrons SAT.

For further practice, see Abhijit Guha's book Quantitative Aptitude and Princeton's GRE 1014 Questions.

In fact, there is no shortage of resources in the market. You will see that many people will also refer to other books. However, keep in mind that these books are of almost the same quality.

So whatever you do, do it very well.
And if you are weak in math, then first of all you can do basic development from math books of English version of class 8, 9, 10.

Topics that would seem to be a problem to understand will be searched on YouTube.
Indiabix and Majortest are very good options among the online resources.
Analytical Ability

The GRE Big book is still unrivaled for analytical puzzles. However, the big problem is that there is no explanation of any problem in the big chest.

So 1 excellent resource for this is 1 PDF file called 200 Puzzle. In it, all the problems of Big Book have been solved.
There is also a very nice explanation. You can download the file for free from the file section of our group.

And you can see the official G-Mat review for critical resonance.

How to prepare for Analytical Section of IBA MBA?

This section is very interesting. Sometimes there are only puzzles, and sometimes there are extra objects where you have to read a paragraph to find the logic. For the preparation of this section, I have found all the analytical questions of GRE BIG BOOK 's 28 model tests (each with 6 puzzles) unique. If you do these, then it will become a lot of practice. And you will read the questions that came in the previous year. [ You can also cover this section from the Official GMAT for additional reading .]

It is easy to make a full mark in this section. But there is also the possibility of not being able to answer, if you are less prepared to improve your mental skills. Many will get full marks here and they will stay ahead. Try to be in that team.

How do I prepare for the written test of IBA MBA?

After completing the objective test, you have to write two texts within 30 minutes. For example, in the MBA admission test of the 56th batch  , an essay was written on a topic like ' Youth's Contribution for National Development '. Write another short paragraph; For example, this time you have to write a story from the events of your life that will tell the reader what kind of person you really are. When writing an essay, write in 3 paragraphs, but only one paragraph. But can't make any grammatical or spelling mistakes.

If you are a good reader of English, then this section is the easiest part of this exam for you. Try to write as much as you can. Again, improve your English skills. You just have to be more discriminating with the help you render toward other people. If you can do that, it's very easy for you. But many people can't do that so they can't pass this part. It is to be noted that each section has to pass the IBA admission test separately, but the percentage of the pass mark is not stated.

How do I allocate time for IBA MBA exam?

It will take about 40 minutes for Math, about 30 minutes for Analytical and 20 minutes for English. It is up to you to decide which one to answer. But I think first of all the analytical part, then English and the rest of the time Math should be answered. However, you must first confirm the pass mark in all the sections.

How long will it take to prepare for IBA MBA Admission?

If you are confident that you can, then one month is a lot for you; Especially those who are fluent in Math and English. But if that doesn't happen, it's time to dump her and move on.

Is coaching important for IBA Admission?

The answer is different in different persons perspective. If you are weak, it is urgent. You can do this with the advice of a coach or in the personal company of someone. However, I think the model test should be given to everyone, wherever it is. Because it will give you a better idea about time allocation. You can catch your problems then.

Personal Experience of IBA MBA Admission Preparation from a Expert Candidate

Preparation should be done completely one month before the exam. However, I started about seven days ago to solve the questions of previous years. Seven days is not right, four days should be said. First I did all the year math, then all the year analytical.

Then the rest was English, I revised that too. It takes one day to do revise question bank.

Math I didn't do much, I was confident about that. But I didn't want to take a risk with English. I read 1000 words from Manhattan. Then I solved all the English questions from GRE BIG BOOK in three days. Analytically, I only thought in the previous years that it might be possible.

No digital watch can be taken for testing, analog must be taken. After going to the hall and getting questions, I did the puzzles first. It took half an hour, I can't say it was very easy. All three puzzles were in this section. Then I solved the English part. There is no doubt that there is an additional suspicion about a question, because there is a negative marking. And in the end I did the rest except 5 maths. Because I thought it would take a long time to do those 5.

After taking the paper to fill the circle of the objective, I started the written part. It didn't take much speed to do that, since I have a good acquaintance with English.

After passing the test, I could not be sure whether my position would be among those who would take it. However, the test was not too bad, so I could not give up hope.

IBA MBA Viva Preparation:

It was too late to give results in my time. The result was given, 96 people were selected for the oral examination. Many will be left out. I fell into tension. I started preparing. I collected the samples from viva and started reading accordingly. It doesn't come with studies, it comes with any other subject.

All you need is confidence and the ability to speak English fluently. Even if you can't do something, how you say that you can't do it will also be marked.

I arrived an hour before the scheduled time to tidy up Vivar Day. Definitely go ahead, because my Viva started 45 minutes before the scheduled time. First a form like your CV will be tested with you. If you hand it over to Viva Board, they will get an idea about you. You have to take the original certificates with you.

I was called before the appointed time, I entered with the form and the packet of certificates (I did not want to see them). If you are not asked to sit, do not sit. Of course you will greet / enter at the time of entry and exit. I did not know then that my Viva would be taken by IBA Director Sir himself. There were five people on the board. The three seniors on the right were asking questions, the other two, Sir and Madam, were relatively junior, they were just paying attention. When answering, try to answer by looking at everyone slowly. You can't hesitate at all.

Some important advice for your preparation:

If you talk to people who are getting a chance in IBA or read their various posts, you will see:

1. Their reading habit was much higher. They practiced reading English regularly.
2. There was a habit of writing in English.
3. There was a habit of listening and speaking English.
